What is Taxi Directory?
Taxi Directory is a UK directory of local taxi firms. You can search by postcode, town or firm name, then call the firm or use its app. Taxi Directory does not take bookings or payments.
How do I book a taxi?
Find a firm on its page, then call the number shown or use the firm's app if it has one. You book and pay directly with the firm. Taxi Directory is not involved in the booking.
Can I hail a taxi in the street?
In England, Scotland and Wales, hackney carriages (the black cab type) can be hailed in the street or picked up at a rank. Private hire vehicles must always be pre-booked through a licensed operator, and they cannot legally pick up people who have not booked. The rules are different in Northern Ireland.
How do I know a taxi is licensed?
In England, Scotland and Wales, taxis and private hire vehicles are licensed by the local council. The rules are different in Northern Ireland. Check that the vehicle displays its licence plate or badge and that the driver carries photo identification. If you are unsure, ask the firm or your local licensing authority.
Does Taxi Directory check the firms listed?
A firm's page goes live once its owner has confirmed their email address. Every firm page has a Report this listing link, and the Taxi Directory team can hide a listing. We do not check firms' licences, so please check these yourself.
Where does the information on a firm's page come from?
Firms add and edit their own details after signing up. Some listings come from public data such as OpenStreetMap. A firm can ask for its listing to be corrected or removed through the contact form.
What does Featured mean?
Featured listings appear first in search results and on town and service pages. They are managed by the Taxi Directory team. If you would like to know more, please get in touch through the contact form.
How do I report a problem with a listing?
Every firm page has a Report this listing link. Use it to tell us about wrong details, a closed business or anything else that looks incorrect. You can also use the contact form.

Is it free to list my firm?
Yes. Listing your firm is free.
How do I add my firm?
Sign up with your email address and add your firm's details. Your page goes live once you have confirmed your email address using the link we send you.
Can I list more than one firm?
No. One account owns one firm. If you run more than one business, each needs its own account and email address.
How do I change my firm's details?
Log in and open your dashboard. From there you can edit your firm's details, logo, opening hours, services and app links at any time.
What do I get with a listing?
Your firm gets its own page on Taxi Directory, plus short links that send people to your App Store or Google Play listing. Taps on those links are counted, and you can see the counts in your dashboard.
Does Taxi Directory take bookings or payments?
No. Passengers call your firm or use your app, so you keep your own booking process and your own payments.
My firm is already listed. What should I do?
Some listings come from public data such as OpenStreetMap. If yours is one of them, you can ask for it to be corrected or removed through the contact form. You can also sign up to manage the page yourself.
